Noel Foran was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 6 July 2023. Judge Orla Crowe passed sentence.
Foran pleaded guilty to three sample counts of sexually assaulting his stepdaughter, Irene Cullen. The proceedings were reported on 6 July 2023.
The offences occurred at an address in Kilnamanagh, Tallaght, on dates between 14 March 1991 and 13 March 1998. Foran told counsellors he had sexually assaulted Ms Cullen around 10 times, mostly while she was asleep, when she was aged between six and 13.
Ms Cullen waived her anonymity following sentencing so that Foran could be named. She told the court that she had been diagnosed with PTSD and other psychiatric disorders as a direct result of the trauma she suffered.
In mitigation, Judge Crowe noted Foran’s remorse, good work history and lack of previous convictions. Foran was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
