Nico Holloway’s WRC complaints over alleged bus safety defects

By Donal Gilhooly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Nico Holloway told the Workplace Relations Commission on 17 July 2024 that he was dismissed after raising alleged bus safety defects; the company disputed his account. The reported defects concerned coaches on intercity routes in Ireland.

Holloway said a bus door opened while he was driving on the M7 in December 2023, and that he had reported other issues including faulty wipers, seat belts and steering. He said he received notice of dismissal on 5 January 2024, with the company citing dissatisfaction with his performance.

Citi Bus, trading as Dublin Coach, said Holloway’s probation was unsatisfactory and that he had discussed a possible mass walkout with other drivers. The WRC hearing was adjourned overnight and was due to continue with further evidence.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
