Garda whistleblower Nicholas Keogh told the Disclosures Tribunal that he smuggled printed Pulse files from a Garda station. The proceedings were reported on 7 November 2019.
Keogh said he printed two copies of files relating to crimes reclassified downwards, which he believed amounted to manipulation of crime figures. He said he hid one copy in the station and another in his baton pocket.
Shane Murphy, senior counsel for An Garda Síochána, said Keogh had copied documents and given them to the press and politicians. Murphy alleged that Keogh was trying to damage Superintendent Patrick Murray and block his promotion. Keogh denied targeting Murray, saying he was showing what had happened to him.
The tribunal, chaired by Judge Sean Ryan, was investigating whether Keogh was targeted, harassed or bullied after making a protected disclosure on 8 May 2014. Keogh alleged that Murray had bullied and harassed him at Athlone Garda Station.
