Nicholas Keogh gives evidence on alleged drug dealing

By Rory Hanlon

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Garda Nicholas Keogh gave evidence to the Disclosures Tribunal about alleged drug dealing on 14 October 2019. He had made a protected disclosure in 2014 concerning the drugs unit at Athlone Garda Station, alleging wrongdoing involving Garda A and Miss B. The tribunal is examining claims that Keogh was targeted after his disclosure, including alleged micro-supervision, delayed travel expenses and confinement to desk duty. The report said the tribunal was considering 22 issues in his complaint.

Keogh alleged that Miss B was involved in drug dealing and recorded an estimated weekly turnover of approximately €2,500. Nóirín O'Sullivan denied an allegation that she contacted Athlone's district officer about Keogh, describing it as completely untrue and without foundation. The tribunal was due to decide whether that allegation would be examined.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
