New Look’s Irish business entered liquidation during the first quarter of 2025. The retailer had 26 stores in the Republic and employed 347 people, with almost 350 staff expected to be made redundant.
At a High Court hearing on 20 February 2025, Mr Justice Brian Cregan was told that New Look Retailers (Ireland) Limited had accumulated substantial debts, its UK parent was withdrawing financial support and provisional liquidators were required. New Look had appointed Shane McCarthy and Cormac O’Connor of KPMG Ireland as provisional liquidators to oversee the winding down of the business.
Barrister John Lavelle told the court that the company had faced pressures including living costs, staff costs and consumer spending moving online. He said the Irish business had made a loss in each of the previous four years and was no longer viable.
New Look said its shops would remain closed for the next few days and reopen on Sunday, 23 February, for a clearance sale. A 30-day consultation period was due to begin over the coming days.
A report published on 31 March 2025 listed New Look’s Irish business among insolvency events in the first quarter of the year.
