Neil Molloy loses unfair dismissal claim at WRC

By Gráinne Nolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Neil Molloy lost his unfair dismissal claim at the Workplace Relations Commission in a decision reported on 20 November 2024. The WRC found his dismissal by Galway Bay FM was not unfair, although it considered the gross misconduct finding excessive; the ruling is under appeal to the Labour Court.

The adjudicator said the first incident was a once-off, out-of-character episode involving no violence, which might not alone have justified dismissal. She found the second incident, when Molloy reacted angrily after being told of a complaint, undermined his apology and supported the dismissal decision.

The WRC dismissed his claims under the Unfair Dismissals Act 1977 and the Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act 1973 as not well founded.
