Mr Justice Seamus Noonan imposed a stay on the inquiry at the High Court on 9 March 2018, with the consent of the parties, pending the National Maternity Hospital’s judicial review challenge.
The inquiry followed Malak Thawley’s death during surgery for an ectopic pregnancy at the hospital on 8 May 2016.
The stay will apply until the hospital’s challenge to the form of the inquiry has been decided.
The High Court fixed the judicial review case for hearing in July, while the hospital disputed the Minister’s power to order another investigation.
