The father in a Munster child sexual abuse case was jailed for life for rape at the Court of Appeal on 30 July 2024.

The Court of Appeal replaced his original 15-year sentence after finding it too lenient. It said the abuse of three young children was grave, systematic and prolonged, against a background of neglect.

The children’s mother and a 51-year-old uncle also had their sentences increased, to 12 years and 18 and a half years respectively, after a successful State appeal.
