Mother and uncle jailed for rape, facilitation and sexual assaults

By Aoife Loughran

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

A mother was jailed for facilitating her daughter’s rape and sexually assaulting her, while the child’s uncle was jailed for raping her, at the Central Criminal Court on Monday, 26 January 2026.

The mother received a 15-year sentence for facilitating the rape and concurrent five-year sentences for two sexual assaults. Her brother was sentenced to 15 years for rape. The judge backdated the sentences to the dates each had entered custody.

Both maintained their innocence and did not accept the jury’s verdicts. The jury had been unable to reach a verdict on the charge against a third defendant, and the charges against him were later dropped after the Director of Public Prosecutions decided not to seek another trial.
