This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The mother and uncle of a girl were each sentenced to 15 years in prison at the Central Criminal Court. A jury had convicted the mother of facilitating her brother’s rape of her daughter and of two sexual assaults, and convicted the uncle of rape. Both continue to maintain their innocence and do not accept the jury’s verdict.

The rape took place in March 2003, when the child was almost six, and the two sexual assaults occurred between January and September 2001, when she was four. The judge set headline sentences of 16 years for both defendants, then imposed 15-year terms, backdated to July 2025 for the mother and November 2024 for the uncle. The mother’s five-year sentences for the sexual assaults are concurrent.
