This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Monika Nagle was awarded €2,000 for unfair dismissal by a Workplace Relations Commission adjudicator following a hearing on 18 January 2023.

Adjudicator Penelope McGrath found Nagle was an employee of Forbidden City Ltd, trading as Translation.ie, and that she had been unfairly dismissed. Nagle had provided interpreting services in Kerry and possibly into Cork.

In December 2021, the company told Nagle she would be paid against invoices instead of through the existing payroll system. The adjudicator found she had been an employee from 2013.

In assessing her loss, McGrath noted that Nagle continued to work at the same rate of pay as a self-employed translator immediately after the termination. Nagle subsequently chose to leave because she was dissatisfied with her treatment.
