Michael Murphy’s Workplace Relations Commission case alleges disability discrimination linked to alcoholism. The Irish Times reported on 2 December 2024 that the complaint was part-heard in late October and expected to return before an adjudication officer in February.

At the WRC hearing, Murphy alleged he was denied opportunities to prepare murder cases and transfer to work with less court duty after disclosing his alcoholism. The DPP denied the statutory complaints. Murphy’s barrister, Tiernan Lowey, made a closing statement on 25 March 2025, and adjudication officer Catherine Byrne was considering her decision.
