This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Michael Leonard, accused of murdering Mary O'Keeffe, was denied bail by the High Court. The proceedings were reported on 6 May 2021.

The charge concerns the alleged murder of 72-year-old Mary O'Keeffe at Doneraile, Co Cork, on 4 February 2021. The State objected to bail, citing the strength of the evidence, the seriousness of the charge and possible witness interference.

Defence counsel cited Leonard's work record and proposed a €10,000 bond and an address. Leonard said he would not approach or speak to witnesses except through his solicitor. Mr Justice Robert Eagar denied bail after considering evidence from Detective Sergeant James O'Shea and Leonard, and the seriousness of the murder charge.
