The unnamed Meath man was sentenced to 10 years, with the final two and a half years suspended, at the Central Criminal Court on 20 March 2018 after being convicted of four rapes and three sexual assaults against his sister.

The offences occurred between 1983 and 1990, at various locations, while the woman was aged approximately 14 to 20.

The judge said the abuse had a devastating effect and noted that the man was a juvenile for much of the offending, but continued offending as an adult.

The man maintained his innocence.
