Meath man jailed for sexual assault and anal rape

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

A Meath man was sentenced at the Central Criminal Court on 25 May 2016 to seven-and-a-half years for sexual assault and anal rape, with the final two-and-a-half years suspended. The offences occurred at his family home between 1999 and 2001, when the girl was aged between 12 and 14.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was convicted by a jury in January and had no previous convictions. Mr Justice Tony Hunt took account of his lack of previous convictions, his not reoffending for 15 years and the assessment that he was unlikely to reoffend.

The suspended portion was conditional on good behaviour and no contact with the victim.
