The jury in Liam O'Leary's Central Criminal Court trial for the murder of John Casserley was discharged after the court was told the trial could not continue. Ms Justice Melanie Greally said an "unfortunate situation" had led to the discharge.

Liam O'Leary, 33, pleaded not guilty to murdering 58-year-old John Casserley at a Peter McVerry Trust housing unit on Tone Street, Ballina, between 23 and 24 October 2024. The proceedings were reported on 18 March 2026.

The case will be mentioned again before the court on 15 April. The report said the prosecution had been expected to complete its evidence that week.
