A Central Criminal Court jury found a Mayo man guilty of three counts of rape, five counts of anal rape and six counts of sexual assault of his daughter. The proceedings were reported on 16 April 2018.

The offences took place in County Mayo and abroad between 2006 and 2010, when the girl was between seven and eleven years old. The man cannot be named to protect her identity.

His barrister, Michael P O’Higgins SC, said the man did not accept the jury’s verdict, maintained his innocence and intended to appeal his conviction as soon as possible.

Ms Justice Deirdre Murphy remanded him in custody until 23 April 2018 for sentencing.
