Maurice McCabe tribunal hears file looked like a cover-up

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Maurice McCabe’s tribunal hearing on 25 October 2017 heard that documents were absent from a Tusla file concerning him and later appeared in the tribunal’s investigators’ file. The tribunal was examining the handling of allegations wrongly attributed to him.

Tusla social worker Lisa O’Loghlen said the missing documents made the matter look like a cover-up, but she could not identify anyone responsible. She said she believed the episode involved poor management and incompetence rather than a cover-up between Tusla and An Garda Síochána.

The tribunal’s chairman, Mr Justice Peter Charleton, described the circumstances as exceptionally difficult to explain. Public sittings were expected to resume in mid to late November.
