Maurice McCabe’s Charleton Tribunal hearing heard a denial of an alleged attempt to discredit him, reported on 7 February 2018. The tribunal was examining whether unjustified grounds were used against him at the O’Higgins Commission of Investigation.
Former Garda civil servant Cyril Dunne denied telling John Barrett that the Garda legal team was pursuing McCabe at the commission. Dunne also said he believed former commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan supported McCabe and wanted the commission to establish the truth.
Dunne did not recall a meeting with O’Sullivan and Barrett on 12 or 13 May 2015. He was due to continue giving evidence the following day.
