Matthew Telford received a fully suspended two-year prison sentence for assault causing harm at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Judge Martin Nolan imposed the sentence, conditional on €4,000 being handed to the woman and a further €5,000 in two years.

Telford pleaded guilty. The assault happened at the Carlton Hotel in Tyrellstown on 13 August 2019, after an argument over the room’s air conditioning. The proceedings were reported on 24 January 2023.

The defence said alcohol played a factor but accepted it was no excuse; Telford had no previous convictions and wrote a letter of apology.
