Matthew Cummins and James Davy appealed their murder convictions to the Court of Appeal. Ms Justice Isobel Kennedy delivered the court’s judgment remotely on 13 July 2021.

The convictions arose from the murder of Thomas (Toddy) Dooley in Edenderry on 12 February 2014, after a 19-day trial involving a third co-accused. The trial began on 11 July 2016.

Cummins and Davy challenged, among other matters, the refusal of separate trials, directions to the jury and the safety of the verdicts.
