By Eimear Byrne

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Martin Stokes was resentenced for aggravated burglary at the Court of Appeal on 9 October 2017, receiving eight years’ imprisonment with the final 15 months suspended. He had pleaded guilty at Naas Circuit Criminal Court to aggravated burglary, two counts of false imprisonment and two counts of assault with intent to commit an indictable offence. The offences occurred at a home in Maddenstown, Co Kildare, on 9 March 2015.

The appeal court held that the sentencing judge should have considered suspending part of the term because of Stokes’ progress towards rehabilitation in custody. He was required to enter a good behaviour bond during the suspended period and for three years after release.
