This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Martin Aylmer was sentenced on 29 July 2022 to ten years and four months in prison, with the final two years suspended. Mr Justice Tony Hunt said the sentence should serve as a lesson in the perils of involvement in the Kinahan organised crime group.

Aylmer pleaded guilty to participating in the murder of Noel Kirwan in 2016 and the attempted murder of James 'Mago' Gately in 2017. The proceedings were reported on 29 July 2022.

Noel Kirwan, whom the report described as an innocent man with no involvement in crime, was shot dead outside his home in December 2016. James 'Mago' Gately survived the attempted murder.

Aylmer imported three tracking devices used in the shootings. Gardaí agreed he was the lowest of those involved in the cellular structure used to carry them out. Mr Justice Hunt said Aylmer’s assistance was important if not essential and that he was a trusted and reliable source of help to the group.

Aylmer was already serving a six-year prison sentence after admitting buying mobile phones for the Kinahan organised crime group members who murdered Michael Barr in Dublin in April 2016.
