Marcos Vinicius De Silva Umbelino was convicted of rape and sexual assault at the Central Criminal Court after a jury returned its verdicts, reported on 7 April 2022.

The jury found that he raped and sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl during events near Kilbeggan, Co Westmeath, and Tullamore, Co Offaly, in December 2016. It found him not guilty of falsely imprisoning her.
