Man with alleged terrorism links refused deportation appeal

By Rory Hanlon

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The High Court refused a man with alleged links to Islamic terrorism permission to appeal the Minister for Justice’s deportation decision on 24 March 2017. The man cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Mr Justice Richard Humphreys discharged the stay on his deportation and refused to extend it for a proposed Supreme Court application. He also continued the reporting restriction on the man’s country of origin for two months after his removal.

The man denied involvement in terrorism and claimed he faced serious harm or torture if returned to his native country. The Irish Refugee Appeals Tribunal had found that he would be at risk of serious harm or torture there when it considered his application for subsidiary protection.
