Man who drove in Castlebar after taking drink and cocaine is disqualified for a year

A MAN has been disqualified from driving for one year after appearing before Judge Vincent Deane at Castlebar District Court.
Enda Keeney, Waterdale, Claregalway, Co. Galway, was charged under Section 4 of the Road Traffic Act following an incident on Springfield Road, Gorteendrunagh, Castlebar, on November 16, 2024.
Court presenter Sergeant Conor McShane told the court Garda Gaughan received a report of a vehicle crossing the white line onto the hard shoulder.
The vehicle was stopped and the driver returned a positive roadside breath test and a positive drug swipe for cocaine.
Keeney was brought to Castlebar Garda Station where a blood sample was taken by a doctor.
The sample returned a reading of 223.0 nanograms per millilitre.
Solicitor Evan O'Dwyer, appearing for Keeney, told the court his client was expecting a second child and worked in the transport industry, and sought a postponement of the disqualification of four weeks.
Judge Deane imposed a one-year disqualification, to commence May 1, 2026.
