A man was sentenced to two years, with the final year suspended, for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 26 February 2016. He was jailed for the unsuspended year after being convicted by a jury of two sexual assaults.

The assaults occurred at the man’s then home between 18 March and 20 April 2008, while the child’s mother was away and the man was staying with her family. The court heard he had no previous convictions and was assessed as being at low risk of reoffending. Judge Patricia Ryan also ordered that he be registered as a sex offender.
