Man jailed for causing €1,000 worth of damage to Kerry hostel room
The KerrymanA judge sentenced a man to two months in prison for ripping radiators and a TV off a hostel wall, smashing its furniture and causing more than €1,000 worth of damage.
Miroslav Biriukov (42), formerly of the Arlington Lodge, Church Street, Tralee, pleaded guilty at Tralee District Court on Wednesday, October 15.
Mr Biriukov was charged with criminal damage for breaking a bed frame, bedside locker, wardrobe and chest of drawers, as well as ripping a TV and radiator from the wall of the room on August 10.
“He ripped the radiators off the walls and threw them in to a hallway,” Sergeant Detective Chris Manton told the court.
Separately, he was charged with intoxication in a public place at the emergency department of University Hospital Kerry.
Mr Biriukov had 62 priors and had been in custody since August.
He previously resided at the Arlington Lodge.
“He’s not welcome back there anymore, judge,” said Det Sgt Manton.
His solicitor, Brendan Ahern told the court, “He’s asking to apologise, judge, which is something new for Mr Biriukov.”
Judge David Waters convicted and sentenced Mr Biriukov to two months, backdated to the date he entered custody.
