This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

An unnamed 45-year-old man was sentenced by the Central Criminal Court to two years’ imprisonment for assaulting his former partner causing her harm and producing a hoover pole at his home in February 2022. Mr Justice Patrick McGrath backdated the sentence for time already spent in custody. The man pleaded guilty to those offences. The proceedings were reported on 28 July 2025.

The judge set a three-year headline sentence, noting the woman’s extensive injuries, while taking account of the early guilty plea and remorse. The man had pleaded not guilty to an anal rape allegation; juries disagreed at two trials, and the DPP entered a nolle prosequi, dropping that charge. The report said he had previously served four months for a separate assault. His barrister said the couple lived separately, both abused substances, and he recognised alcohol as the root of his offending and wanted to attend AA.
