Man gave up the drink because ‘it does not agree with him’

By Ronan Judge, Connacht Tribune

Evan McMorrow, with an address at Cloonfad, Oldtown, Athlone, pleaded guilty at Galway District Court to an intoxication offence, contrary to section 4 of the Public Order Act.

He also admitted providing a false name and address to a Garda, contrary to section 24 of the Act.

Garda Michael Hehir of Tuam Garda Station told the court he met the accused outside Coyote Bar on Shop Street, shortly after lam on May 17, 2025.

McMorrow, who was intoxicated, gave a false address, date of birth and name.

Garda Hehir said he eventually got the correct details.

He says he has given it up for the past four months

The court heard McMorrow had a number of previous convictions, all for road traffic offences.

Defence barrister, Ernie White BL (instructed by solicitor Martin Moran), said his client was very drunk on the night and "drink does not agree with him."

"He says he has given it up for the past four months," Mr White added.

Imposing fines totalling €250, Judge Valerie Corcoran told the accused: "You need to be more careful. There is little point in giving false information to Gardaí."
