Man charged in connection with Wicklow robberies including the theft of a shotgun is remanded in custody
The Wicklow PeopleA Dublin man has been remanded in custody following a special sitting of Bray District Court, where he was charged in connection with a series of burglaries in Co. Wicklow and a separate home invasion dating back over a decade.
Jimmy Cash (36), of 7 Daletree Place, Ballycullen, Dublin 24, appeared this morning at the special sitting charged in connection with a series of burglaries in the Ashford and Clonpadden areas of Wicklow on September 24, 2025, as well as with an alleged offence relating to a robbery dating back to 2013.
Detective Tadhg O’Connor of Wicklow Garda Station objected to bail under Section 2 of the Bail Act 1997. The court heard Mr Cash faces five charges under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act and, if convicted, could face a custodial sentence of up to 14 years for each offence.
The court was told that it was alleged that on March 13, 2013, Mr Cash entered a premises and stole €7,200 in cash. He was later identified after a blood sample was recovered from the scene.
It was alleged that at 12.10pm on September 24 this year, Mr Cash entered a property at Clonpadden, Arklow, Co. Wicklow, and stole a gun safe containing a shotgun.
The court heard that an independent witness reported seeing a man carrying a large box and placing it in a Ford Fiesta. While the witness was on the phone to gardaí, the car overtook him and sped away.
Detective O’Connor further told the court that later the same day, at around 3.40pm, three houses in Annagolan, Ashford, Co. Wicklow, were burgled, with items including €700 in cash and a new chainsaw reported stolen.
CCTV footage obtained from a Circle K shortly after the burglaries allegedly shows Mr Cash and two females in the car. One of the women, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Bray District Court on September 25 on related charges.
Detective O’Connor said Mr Cash had ties to the UK and said “I don’t believe he will abide by any conditions.”
Solicitor for the defence, Sorcha Dianamh Ní Néill Fulham BL, argued that Mr Cash has strong family connections in the jurisdiction, including his mother, pregnant partner and young daughter, all of whom live in or near Co. Wicklow. She said no items from the alleged thefts were recovered at his home and confirmed that gardaí had seized his vehicle for forensic analysis.
She told the court her client had endured personal tragedy when his brother was killed in a road accident at the age of 16, after which he turned to drugs.
She said Mr Cash has since completed rehabilitation, has been sober for six years, and has certificates to verify this.
The court also heard he previously worked as a roofer. Ms Ní Néill Fulham said Mr Cash was willing to surrender his passport and comply with strict bail conditions. “My client has the presumptions of innocence,” she added “firearms are not easy to offload”.
Legal aid was granted to John M Quinn in respect of the charges.
Judge David Kennedy remanded Cash in custody “due to the missing firearms”. Mr Cash is due back before Bray District Court via video link on October 2, 2025.
