Man breached protection order by texting woman multiple times, Court hears
A man has appeared in a Donegal court charged with multiple breaches of a protection order.
The man, who is in his 30s and cannot be named for legal reasons due to the nature of the charges, appeared before Ballyshannon District Court.
A Garda gave evidence of the arrests, charge and caution of the man, who met Gardai by appointment.
After being charged with five offences, the man made no reply, the court heard.
The man was charged with breaching a protection order previously granted by the District Court. The charges are all contrary to section. 33 (1) of the Domestic Violence Act 2018.
Solicitor Mr Gerry McGovern told the court that he had previously represented the accused man but, owing to the ongoing strike action by criminal legal aid solicitors, he was not in a position to do so.
The court heard that it is alleged that the man sent text messages to the woman who was granted the protection order.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham granted the man bail on condition that he have no communication, either directly or indirectly, through social media or otherwise, with the alleged injured party.
The man was warned to abide by the terms of the protection order.
