The High Court cleared the way for the deportation of a man with alleged links to Islamic terrorism after a judge refused permission to appeal. The proceedings were reported on 24 March 2017. The State alleged he was raising money for jihadists and considered him a national security risk.
Mr Justice Richard Humphreys lifted the stay preventing the man’s removal and refused to extend it for an application to the Supreme Court. He ordered that the reporting restriction on the man’s country of origin continue for two months after his removal.
The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, denies involvement in terrorism and claims he would be at risk of serious harm or torture if returned to his native country. He said the Refugee Appeals Tribunal, which considered his application for subsidiary protection, had found that he would face that risk. His counsel said he would apply to the Supreme Court.
