Senior counsel for the defendant, Diarmuid Collins told the court that his client is an asylum seeker with no previous convictions. He added that Mr Ikanlawon is “very apologetic” and is currently working in Ireland.

A Yoruba interpreter was ordered for sentencing, as the accused is from Nigeria.

Counsel for the prosecution, James Kelly, requested that a victim impact report from Mr Cuddihy’s family be prepared.
