A man accused of going on a violent rampage involving stolen vehicles, threats to family members, and an assault on a garda has been refused bail at Wicklow Circuit Criminal Court.

Jonathan Teevan (29), of Knocknaboley, Hacketstown, appeared before the court facing 20 charges, including assaulting a garda in the course of his duty, criminal damage, and unlawful possession of several vehicles.

A member of An Garda Síochána gave a summary of the allegations. The court heard that on May 15, 2025, Mr Teevan allegedly ran his brother off the road in Tinahely. When his brother returned to the family home, Mr Teevan is said to have followed him and threatened the occupants, allegedly stating: “Wait till I come back, I’ll burn the house down.”

Mr Teevan is also accused of stealing a Toyota Hilux, which was later allegedly used to ram Garda vehicles off the road and into a ditch, resulting in one garda suffering a dislocated finger and another sustaining several dislocated fingers.

James Kelly BL, counsel for the prosecution, told the court that Mr Teevan allegedly returned to the house and produced an article in a threatening manner. He was later arrested at the scene and granted bail that same day.

The court further heard that on June 7, Mr Teevan allegedly stole his ex-girlfriend’s red Volkswagen Polo.

Gregory Murphy BL, counsel for the defence, told the court that Mr Teevan’s offending was linked to his drug addiction, and that he has since reconciled with some family members. However, gardaí said they were not aware of any reconciliation.

Judge Patrick Quinn refused the bail application, noting that this was Mr Teevan’s second “crime spree” while on bail. Judge Quinn remanded Mr Teevan in custody until February 3, 2026.
