Man (83) for trial in Central Criminal Court on sexual assault charges

An 83-year-old man has been returned for trial to the Central Criminal Court accused of sexually assaulting another male.

A book of evidence was served on the defendant when he appeared before Drogheda District Court.

He is charged with 47 counts of sexual assault of the same male on dates between 2002 and 2016.

The DPP consented to a send forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court with consent also for a send forward for sentence on signed guilty pleas should that occur.

During an in camera hearing, Judge Nicola Andrews gave the accused the alibi warning and made a Section 56 disclosure order.

He was sent forward to the Central Criminal Court on the same bail conditions

Legal aid was granted for a solicitor, barrister and senior counsel. Legal aid was extended for a psychologist’s report.
