Magnier drops appeal over Barne Estate ruling

By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

John Magnier has dropped his planned appeal of the High Court ruling in the Barne Estate case, saying the decision was made on pragmatic grounds. The intended appeal would have challenged factual and legal findings, not sought to enforce the land deal or claim damages.

The High Court had found that no land-sale or option agreement was concluded. The judge dismissed the action and criticised Magnier’s evidence; in December, the court ordered him to pay the sellers’ legal costs, estimated at more than €4 million.

Magnier’s statement said he continues to stand by the position he put forward at trial and maintains that he acted in good faith. The Thomson-Moore family welcomed the end of the proceedings.
