Lovemore Dube withdrew rape sentence appeal

By Eimear Byrne

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Lovemore Dube’s rape sentence appeal was withdrawn at the Court of Appeal on 3 March 2016. He had pleaded guilty to raping a woman in her Cork home and was serving a nine-year sentence, with the final two years suspended. The court allowed the appeal to be withdrawn after his barrister told the three-judge court that Dube wished to discontinue it.

Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan said the application was wise. Dube had been sentenced at the Central Criminal Court on 31 January 2013 for the 23 July 2012 offence.
