A 33-year-old man who damaged bedrooms while a guest in two different hotels has received a suspended sentence.

Conor Ellis, with addresses at Drive 1, Muirhevnamor; Stamanaran, Old Golf Links Road, and Emer Terrace, Dundalk, pleaded guilty to two criminal damage charges.

The district court heard that on December 10, 2019, blood was found on the wall and on a duvet in a room at the Carnbeg Hotel. The toilet seat had been broken.

Sgt Richie Browne continued that the circumstances were similar in a bedroom at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on February 16, 2020.

A “large hole” was found in a wall. He made full admissions.

Damage at the Carnbeg amounted to €934 and at the Crowne Plaza, €1,043.

There were four previous convictions, including public order and Section 3 possession of drugs.

Barrister Eoghan Fagan said that Mr Ellis lost a son during this time.

He was no longer using illicit drugs and while he did not have compensation, was willing to pay it.

A three-month sentence, suspended for 24 months, was imposed on one of the charges, with the other taken into consideration.
