Louth gardaí found baton in car of ‘extremely nervous’ carpenter

A carpenter who was nervous when stopped by gardaí had an extendable baton in his car, the district court has heard.
Dariusz Pac (42), Carroll Village, Dundalk, was fined €250 on a resultant summons for possession of the article.
Evidence was given that on March 25, 2025, gardaí saw a car speeding and overtaking another vehicle as it approached a roundabout on Tom Bellew Avenue.
They turned to follow and after stopping the car, spoke to Mr Pac, the driver. He was “extremely nervous”.
The car was searched and a silver extendable baton discovered in a compartment above the driver’s seat.
He had no explanation for having it.
Barrister Eoghan Fagan said that his client earned €450 per week as a carpenter. He had €50 to offer the court.
Mr Pac protested, “I didn’t hit nobody. I didn’t hurt nobody.”
Judge Nicola Andrews fined him €250 and made a destruction order for baton.
