This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Lorcan Roche Kelly’s damages action against the State was struck out by the High Court, reported on 23 January 2015. He brought the civil claim on behalf of his two children after his wife Sylvia Roche Kelly was murdered in a Limerick hotel in December 2007.

High Court President Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns ruled that the claim could not succeed under established common-law principles. The court found that no duty of care arose on the facts, while the defendants had denied the allegations made against them.
