Leszek Sychulec and Andrzej Gruchacz lose murder appeal

By Donal Gilhooly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Leszek Sychulec and Andrzej Gruchacz had their murder convictions upheld by an Irish appeals court, reported on 3 February 2018. The convictions concerned the killing of 23-year-old Patryk Krupa, who was beaten unconscious and thrown into the River Shannon near Athlone.

The men were convicted in 2016 after denying the murder. The report said investigators relied on CCTV footage, witness evidence and blood traces, while the appeal challenged whether footage could identify Sychulec; the appeal judge rejected that challenge and found no basis to overturn the convictions.
