Kilsaran Concrete Limited was fined €1 million by the Court of Appeal on 6 April 2017 for breaching workplace safety duties after an employee’s death.
The company had pleaded guilty after Barry Gargan died in an industrial accident at its concrete-products plant in Piercetown, County Meath, on 6 September 2011.
The court found the original €125,000 fine unduly lenient, quashed it and resentenced the company after allowing a 50% reduction for mitigation.
