A former DJ and music production student has been handed a four-month prison sentence, after admitting breaking into a barber shop and an entertainment centre.

Lee Heffernan (36), of no fixed abode, appeared at of Bray District Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to two counts of burglary and one charge of intoxication in a public place.

Sergeant Mick Dee told the court that, in November 2025, gardaí received reports of a “loud bang” at the Robbin’s Nest Barbers in Kilcoole. The accused had smashed the front window, leaving behind blood, which was identified through the national DNA database as belonging to Heffernan.

In April 2026, Mr Heffernan broke into Bray Dart Station at 3.58am before breaking into Bray Bowl, an indoor family entertainment centre on Quinsborough Road, Bray, beside the Dart station. He was later identified through CCTV footage.

Mr Heffernan has 22 previous convictions for criminal damage, theft, public order offences and possession of an article.

Solicitor for the defendant, Aoife McTaggart, said she would “enlighten the court” that her client is a native of Kilkenny, who moved to Bray as a mature student to study DJ and music production.

She said he initially used recreational drugs before his addiction “snowballed”.

The court heard that, while in custody, the defendant is “doing very well”, and has been referred to St Francis Farm, a treatment centre.

Judge Paula Cullinane sentenced the accused to four months imprisonment, with the final two months suspended, while also taking the remaining charges into consideration.
