Kevin Hannaway jailed for IRA interrogation offence

By Donal Gilhooly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Kevin Hannaway was sentenced to three years and nine months at the Special Criminal Court, reported on 31 July 2018, after conviction for assisting IRA interrogations.

The offence involved helping interview people at a house in Riverwood Park, Castleknock, Dublin, during August 2015.

The court said the offence warranted six years but reduced the sentence because of Hannaway’s age and medical problems.

Hannaway had been interned in 1971 and subjected to treatment later described by the European Court of Human Rights as inhumane and degrading.
