Kevin Carroll withdrew appeal against rape sentence

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Kevin Carroll withdrew his appeal against a 10-year rape sentence at the Court of Appeal, reported on 5 November 2018. He had been sentenced at the Central Criminal Court on 26 February 2016 after being convicted on two counts of raping a girl at an Offaly school. The Court of Appeal had warned that it could increase the sentence.

Carroll had previously lost an appeal against his conviction. The three-judge court rejected an argument concerning a juror’s facial expression, finding the trial was not unsatisfactory and the verdict was not unsafe.
