A Kerry man found with bags of cocaine in his car at Listowel Racecourse pleaded guilty to three charges of possession of cocaine and cannabis at Listowel District Court.

Ryan Allman (40) of Greenville, Listowel appeared before judge David Waters. Amongst the charges were allegations gardaí recovered five bags of cocaine when his car was searched at Listowel Racecourse car park on Saint Patrick’s Day.

Mr Allman had 42 previous convictions, including two for possession of drugs for sale and supply, as well as convictions from March 2024.

“A year later he’s found with €362 worth of cocaine at the races?” asked Judge David Waters. “He’s not getting the message.”

“I suppose I’ll have to disavow you on the matters presented by the State,” said the defendant’s solicitor, Padraig O’Connell.

Mr O’Connell said his client had turned a corner since serving in Cork Prison.

“He doesn’t have anything against him now,” said the solicitor. “He has engaged with the services and done everything asked of him.”

“Quite simply, he does not want to return to jail,” he said.

The judge replied, “He has to get a custodial sentence for the cocaine possession.”

He sentenced Mr Allman to four months for cocaine possession, taking into account the charge for cannabis possession.
