A Kerry judge granted a protection order to a man who alleged his wife had subjected him to physical abuse and racial slurs.

At a recent court sitting, he told the judge she suggested he self-harm, had slapped and thrown cups at him, mocked his masculinity and placed duct tape on camera lenses around their property.

“I’m terrified she’ll go to extreme lengths to get me out of the house,” he said.

Judge Carol Anne Coolican granted the order and adjourned the case to late October, when he may apply for a permanent domestic violence order.

In another application, a woman with a black eye requested a protection order from her brother.

She said he had punched her in the head.

“He came out of nowhere,” she added.

The judge granted the order, stipulating that he was to have no communication with her and could not legally approach her home.

There will be a hearing in early October.

“You have the protection of the court and the guards,” said Judge Coolican.
