Kenneth Broe’s causing serious harm sentence appeal dismissed

By Ruairí Dolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Kenneth Broe’s appeal against his sentence for causing serious harm was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 22 May 2020. He had received ten years’ imprisonment, with the final 18 months suspended, for the offence committed in Letterkenny on 9 October 2008.

The court also recorded concurrent sentences of three and a half years for assault causing harm and 12 months for cocaine possession for sale or supply. The appeal argued that mitigating factors should have reduced the headline sentence, but the court found no error of principle in the sentencing judge’s approach.
