Keith Walsh (35) received a fully suspended three-and-a-half-year sentence after pleading guilty to assault causing harm to his mother, Maura Walsh, in Cabra on August 22, 2024. Judge Martina Baxter imposed the sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court and suspended it for five years on strict conditions. She also ordered Walsh to be supervised by the Probation Services for 18 months and to attend suitable offence-focused, anger management and addiction courses.
The court heard that Walsh punched his mother repeatedly, pinned her against a wall and put his hands around her neck. Judge Baxter described the assault as unprovoked and protracted. In imposing sentence, she noted his early guilty plea, steps to address his problems and lack of further Garda attention, as well as a probation report stating that he was developing insight and had begun to rehabilitate.
